This is a parable (Book of Enoch) about the flood of the world and how the sign (rainbow) was displayed by God as a sign of the covenant between God and all living things on earth.

The prophet Enoch is one thing, the Book of Enoch is a different thing.

It was one of several books of the Hebrew Bible (a loosely defined concept until maybe 1000 years ago) but was written at a rather late date, and was excluded maybe around 2000 yars ago.  Perhaps because its astronomy is extremely crude and was laughable already 2000 years ago.  That is why it was lost: it stopped being copied.  For centuries it survived only as mentions and quotes in other books.

It was attributed to Enoch by its authors, because it describes Heavens, and the Torah said that Enoch was the only man had been there alive.  Just as the Gospels were attributed to four Apostles -- because they tell the deeds and teachings of Jesus, and only the Apostles could have witnessed all of them.

Oh come on Jorge, do your homework,  apostle <> disciple  Wink  Out of supposed Four Evangelists only two - Matthew and John were ones of 12 Apostles. Mark and Luke weren't. There are some guesses about Mark and Luke that they were minor disciples of Jesus, present in Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified but they aren't confirmed. If we ignore them then Mark and Luke were "second generation" Christians.

Indeed, weren't they 30 or 40 years after the crucification?

But only Matthew and John are traditionally considered to have been Apostles, Mark and Luke have never been (*). And Paul is considered an Apostle too, even if the only Jesus he ever met was hallucinated.

(*) 'Traditionally', because, in effect, the authors of the Gospels are completely unknown.

Edit I see I was beaten by Rafal  Big Grin

Thanks, I stand corrected.  My point was only to observe why the "Book of Enoch" was attributed to Enoch.

Sure. It is actually a well known trick called pseudoepigraphy. See the Wikipedia article for nuances.

By the way, in the past people didn't see pseudoepigraphy as some blatant lie. Imagine that some rabbi writes a text which claims that it is written by Moses. By accident he gets caught red-handed.
He would easily get away with it, claiming that the spirit of Moses was speaking though him, and there is nothing in the text that Moses wouldn't say, so he could actually say it, so we can call it words of Moses  Big Grin Or use similar "talmudic logic".

Very interesting. The pictorial appendices follow the text of 1 and 2 of the Book of Enoch very precisely and in detail, including the mapping of Enoch's world. Several authors have already tried to draw a map of Enoch's world, but no one has succeeded in doing so in as much detail as in the Voynich manuscript. I don't understand how the author of the Voynich manuscript could describe the entire world of Enoch, including the heavens and astronomy and astrology, so logically and technically and graphically. Sometimes I think that it must have been Enoch himself (Thovt, Hermes Trismegistos) .
I am gradually putting together a mapping of Enoch’s world. In the Voynich manuscript these are the ROS sheets. I am using available sources:
Moses 6–7 and the Book of Giants:Remarkable Witnesses of Enoch’s Ministry,
Jeffrey M. Bradshaw,

Chapter One Putting It all together: Mapping the world of Enoch 17-19,
Kelley Coblentz Bautch
Each circular image in the Voynich manuscript describes some function of celestial mechanics. Waters, winds, stars, the alternation of days, moon, etc. They express the celestial order governed by angels. I am publishing a sample of the celestial vault for folio f68r1.
