IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT (well, sort of)

Seems like not enough vowels for an anagram.
...
Caesar cipher with a shift of -7:
  Wilfrid is the retracer.

[deadmoon]

This might have work years ago. Now I can just say:

ALL SOLUTIONS ARE EQUAL BUT SOME ARE MORE SO

and no matter what discovery is made, I probably would be able with some computing power to retrofit something plausible as an anagram of this.

Note that this could cover any potential future discovery.

SQUEALS UNITE BUT ALSO MORE LOAM LORE AROSE

"Squeals unite" marks the moment of collective discovery, when scattered signs suddenly align and the decipherers’ private gasps collapse into shared excitement, as if the manuscript itself provokes the outcry.

Loam is the worked earth and local soil from which living forms and practical knowledge are drawn.

Congratulations oshfdk

At least, that's my guess.

Ah!  Voynich is the key

[ The first "h" must be an "a". That makes the preceding "'u" most likely an "'s". (Can't think of another contraction ending except "
't" which is hard to precede an "a").  Guessing that makes the first word "There". That suggests "voynich" for a key.   The rest reveals itself."]

Vigenère, key = VOYNICH.

Damn. So now I'm one of those people on this forum who are hoping for something new and spectacular because the old stuff is too familiar, boring and annoying.

[Koen G]

Someone quickly give nablator some Voynichese, he's on a roll!

[ReneZ]

I hope that Stolfi posts the actual news on a new thread, so I don't have to keep looking in this one

[Koen G]

Right, it's probably best to lock this thread now since it's become a chat thread in the theories and solutions forum. Stolfi can just make a new thread when he's ready.
