It could also be a symbol from the Malachim alphabet, which is derived from ancient "spectacle-shaped" characters. This symbol is called RESH. I will provide a detailed description and rationale in my own thread so as not to interfere with this theory. They can also be found in the *Key of Solomon* and *Picatrix*.
