Because this is just another ˋmethod´ to magically add some extra characters (in this case, „splitted vowels“) to the very limited character collection VMS.
In the desperate hope to produce something recognizable and familiar; others tried this by summing up completely different meanings in each 1 VMS-character, „rotating“ translations etc.
