All of my work was independent of outside research. I intentionally did it that way because I did not want my work adulterated with outside influence

Your introduction should start with the description of the context, the state of previous research on the topic. So, in my opinion, the best response to the comments would be "I missed the literature search this time, I'll catch up next time".

Why would I care about previous research when everyone else has been wrong?

If you can prove that your predecessors were wrong, it can only add value to your work.
