C. is more like a troll laying bait.
All of this is from a while ago though, before researchers everywhere hit back hard. We're half June now, I wonder if he's learned his lesson.

I completely agree. That's why I was rather horrified to see the paper promoted this way.
There was an ownership issue from 1870 onwards, not just for the Voynich MS of course.
I am sure that Gerard Cheshire had no idea about this when he wrote this page.

This ownership issue, which was indeed of political nature, has been sorted out in the mean time. It is described in several publications, both from the side of the Society of Jesus and from the state.
It is now part of history.
Cheshire's university is hiring some staff members that were clearly missing from its roster: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
All's well that ends well Smile The more money is invested in science and education, the better.
I did not want to defile the King thread with talk about Cheshire, but...

Quote:Cheshire, the British scholar whose Voynich research was published by Romance Studies in May, waved off the new California competition after reviewing the summary in King’s paper.

“My paper passed blind peer-review with a reputable journal, as it was independently tested and passed by a panel of academics,” Cheshire said. “That is the gold standard for academics. The only reason why doubt was cast over it in the news is because there are many enthusiasts out there for whom the manuscript is their social outlet and pastime, so they didn’t want it solved and they launched a trolling campaign.”

With all respect, that's ridiculous. At least here in the forums I would assume that everyone wants to see the VMS solved. That Cheshire obviously did not solve it is the crucial point, and recognizing that fact must be allowed. This has nothing to do with trolling. In my opinion, the trolling accusation is just an attempt to bring the whole thing to a non-objective level. Since one can avoid any substantive discussion well.
Exactly. In many ways, Cheshire is the Trump of the Voynich world.
The "trolling" comment is not Cheshire's first attempt to discredit anyone who disagrees with his research. He does it quite regularly.
Quote:Thank you for your query following up on this. Alongside the publisher, this paper and the concerns raised have been reviewed in line with the industry standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics. We found that there are many interpretations of the Voynich manuscript and that this paper offers one of them, so we have taken the decision that no further action is needed.
