The Russian press does not shun strong language: the Izvestia's title says "Non-scientific sensation: the decipherer of the Voynich Manuscript turned out a swindler".

A bit surprisingly but a very good survey from official media, especially for non-specialist (and link to JKP’s blog is present Smile )

Very reasonable approach to terminological problems from article’s expert: on the one hand “proto-Romance” is said to be acceptable as synonym for “colloqial Latin”, on the other hand improper use of “diphthong” shows scientific level of the author.
By the way, many reports state that Cheshire is a linguist (and I was also fooled by that) - he is not. He is PhD in Human Behavioural Ecology, MPhil is Insect Ecology and BSc in Anthropology. Here's his LinkedIn page: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.

(He still promotes his "solution", that's very funny).

I agree with what David wrote above:

The fake news business is booming. Cheshire can hope to soon have a much more remunerative occupation than whatever he does at the University of Bristol.
Well, AFAIK he's a writer and and published many books, so... Wink
For the record, here are a couple more articles...

Unfortunately, on my screen, the content vanishes (I'll have to try a different browser or a different computer), but it might work on yours.
I notice quite a few countries posting about Cheshire now.

The one from Napoli really adds insult to injury:

"La notizia è stata accolta con entusiasmo dalla comunità scientifica, che da tempo s’interrogava invano sul testo"
Well, this bloke is so upset its "mundane human truths" have been revealed that he's about to... well, I don't know what.

He'll be delighted when he reads this thread! Big Grin

Big Grin

Well "una sensación de vacío" is an appropriate reaction but not for those reasons.
