But however you break it up, L V I is not 10 5 6. You can't re-use the V (5).
JP, The first number (here the X [10]) was always placed on the top of the page. The quatrains were divided in to ten Centuries numbered I to X each meant to contain one hundred quatrains numbered I to C so you need to combine the two to get the complete number. Luckily, X-56 appeared at the top of the page in one of the editions, so I can show you:

So that you can see that LVI is the same as 56, I'm appending a snippet from the first complete edition (1590) which used Arabic numerals. On revision of this edition, the numbers were changed to Roman numerals and the whole thing was backdated to 1568. I guess they thought Roman numerals looked older.
Sometimes the revisions can provide us with clues regarding the decoding and/or translation. We see here that the word "par" was dropped as unnecessary. And "la bouche" was changed to "sa bouche". Possibly the original "bouche" stood alone as articles were not used in some languages, and then they decide to change "la" to "sa" to be more compatible with the "son" above.
Meanwhile, "Tunys" was corrected to "Tunis" which indeed is a big help for the contraction I suggested. It reminds me of prophecy V-35 where we find "bruine" consistently spelled "bruine" and prophecy VI-37 where we find "bruine" consistently spelled "bruyne" (where the "y", in the universe of curiosities, helps to identify the assassin of JFK!)
In their secret communications, the decoders of the VMS verify that "bruine" in V-35 and "bruyne" in VI-37 are both correct. This is how they did it:

Counting the first three cardinal numbers (excluding the ordinals) we get "eight" plus "Twenty" plus "nyne" (with a y) equals 37, ie. VI-37 where "bruine" is spelled "bruyne". Counting the last three cardinal numbers we get "nine" (with an i) plus "Twenty" plus "six" equals 35, ie. V-35 where "bruine" is spelled "bruine".
Conclusion: For whatever type of encoding employed in the VMS, the decoders, in their output, were clearly able to distinguish an "i" from a "y".
NOTES
1. V-35 is the prophecy extensively alluded to on f116v.
2. It might not be coincidental that the third line of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. begins with "six". Similar to how "six" is added to "nine and Twenty" in this communication to get 35, in the VMS marginalia VI (six) is added to IX (last two letters of the "six") + X + X (29) to get 35. -

I'm interrupting my Arabic studies for a moment to let you guys know that my theory of the non-authorship of the VMS by Italian monks has now found strong support in the world's academic community:

As you can see, the VMS wasn't compiled by Italian monks at all but rather by Spanish nuns! And more than that, they say that the underlying research supporting this conclusion was subjected to peer review and presumably confirmed as true and accurate.
I have one more thing to say: Since making contact with VMS research, I have lost all respect for what PhD academics have to say. -

You just chose to reference the one person who is on the hot-seat right now for poor research practices. The University of Bristol even redacted the press release describing his paper and they almost NEVER do that. -

JP, I learned about it on MSN Headline News today (my Windows 10 News Feed) but it looks like you already knew about it and it wasn't new news at all.
I found an article about it where it seems that, like Tucker for Mexico, this academic got a positive ID on Linda's volcanoes (my stumps), both found near Vulcanello in Italy. I suppose he attributes authorship to Spanish nuns rather than Italian nuns because back then those volcanoes belonged to Spain, as part of the Kingdom of Aragon and Naples.
Anyway, what most upsets me is that there is so much fake news these days that, if I were ever break the VMS code (however remote that may be), there will be no one willing to take a look at it.
What did you think about his claim that the VMS was written in the proto-Romance language? Did you see a sample of his translation? The article insinuated that he had decoded it all but later said he hoped others would decode / translate the rest of it. -

Both are well-written and informative. Thanks. On YouTube, I see that many have claimed partial success on the decoding but I found none of the techniques to be widely applicable and therefore, to my thinking, none are credible.
As noted earlier, the marginalia drops hints about the 72-letter name (available in the Latin alphabet) and I think this might be the missing link (glyph to Latin letter conversion) needed for successful decoding. If I find something potentially promising, I'll make sure to post it in voynich.ninja for your review! -

It's been so long since I last visited Twitter that I had to look up my password! On a Voynich search, I found no such mention of any of my websites but I did take advantage of the opportunity to update my links and I even recommended visiting this thread on voynich.ninja. Despite not having tweeted since 2017, I somehow managed to accumulate 205 followers. Strange.
I think I need to clarify that my Twitter followers likely result from other topics that I have written about in the past, not from my VMS theories. I see that Cheshire was heavily mentioned on Twitter. Interestingly, he seems to have reached the international media only after he was declared to be fake news by JP and others. It might be much harder for a genuine decoding of the VMS to get fake news clearance.
