Emma, we learned from the Stellar experience. Crazy theories are allowed but they should stick to one thread. This makes it very easy to ignore if you wish, and the thread is very clearly named.
After I warned Morten about this rule he's only posted in this very thread, so I don't see why he should be banned. -

Please ban this nonsense. You do a great disservice to Voynich research by hosting it. You already made the wrong choice with Stellar, and now you're repeating it.
I'm not particularly happy with voynich.ninja either. I've already been banned from all threads except this one and I really would not mind if this entire thread got deleted.
So far, I see no one else in this forum with enough courage to suggest a motive for developing such an elaborate system of encryption. With so many European links found by JKP, it is unlikely to be written in an unknown language.

I see that my website has been indexed by the Baidu search engine. I'm hoping there is someone in China with a little common sense as that is a commodity hard to find in the Western world. -

Actually, if it turned out to be an artificial language, or numbers, or something other than an encrypted natural language, I would not be at all surprised. -

Please don't delete the thread.
Not only because it would be a form of censorship to delete or even ban Morten St George, who in spite of everything has broken no rules, but this thread serves as a testament that we tried, in good faith, to point out some of the more patently false foundations of this theory.
It also memorializes the way in which Morten St George has received our critiques, constantly deflecting and changing the subject when proven wrong, constantly projecting opinions upon us that none of us hold.
If I get any say as the person who created this thread, I'd vote for the thread to stay.
If at any time in the future anyone looks up the Morten St George theory, they will find this thread and know exactly what they are dealing with. -

Morten, if you feel like you have been treated unfairly here, you are welcome to look for other people who do like your theory.

My recommendation to would-be decoders is to concentrate on the red-star passages of the recipes. The VMS authors had to know that the objective of the encryption was to protect the sacred text so it is possible that everything else in the MS is utter gibberish. Why encrypt the plant descriptions? If someone broke the code on the plants, they would be able to proceed to decode the sacred text.
Possibly, at one time, there was real language text attached to the original drawings, but when copying the drawings in the early 15th century, they could have or should have replaced that text with gibberish written in the glyphs. Moreover, in order to function the type of encryption I think they used would require a minimum length greater than the length of names we see attached to the girls in the astrology and biology sections. -

Sir, I am not looking for people who like my theory. I'm looking for scholars to refute it (if anyone can) or to help improve it.
So far, I am not disappointed with this group. You guys have convinced me that the swamps are more likely to be located on the north side of the Gulf of Mexico than on the south side of the Caribbean.
Though I still believe the original swamp depictions were made of deerskin parchment (it's common sense: why else depict a deer on the last page?), you guys have convinced me that the current VMS is more likely to be bison parchment than alpaca parchment.
I am not the first to suggest contact with Mexico (where bison lived). Based on botanical and zoological (iguana) considerations, others have suggested that the VMS is written in the Nahuatl language. I don't know about that, but I firmly maintain that the red-star passages transcribe Latin.
An open question is how the VMS got from Mexico to Peru. It's possible that the Cathars inspired the rise of the Aztec Empire circa 1300 and then the rise of the Inca Empire in 1438. The Cathars were missionaries; they could have made converts among the natives (who copied the deerskin content onto bison parchment) with all records of this (if there were any) destroyed by the Inquisition. -

Why do you think it's a deer?
It has short legs, a slightly poofy body and a long poofy tail. Based on how the other drawings are done throughout the manuscript, I think it's more likely a sheep/ram than a deer. In general the VMS animals are not well-drawn, but it still looks more like a sheep than a deer.
The strange shape above it might be a pelt (pelts were frequently associated with astrological symbols) or a recently butchered animal (sometimes associated with sacrifices). It doesn't necessarily have to be evidence of tanning, it might be related to the subject matter that's on other pages already, especially considering there's a nymph near it that is similar to many of the other nymphs.
