Yes. Probably old people kept using the old forms that the youngsters were not taught anymore. I believed that the old forms became rare after 1450 but I was wrong: when I checked page numbers recently I found many. Probably also regional disparities in the time of adoption of the new forms.

Is the reverse true though? Were the new forms found pre-1450, or more specifically during the carbon dating range for the VMS? I've never thought to check. 

I might be straying off the thread topic though, sorry.
