If the mystery language of the Voynich Manuscript is Old Czech (Bohemian) or Moravian, why wasn't Georg Baresch (1585-1662) of Prague able to read it?

"Georg Baresch was the earliest confirmed owner of the Voynich manuscript. He was apparently just as puzzled as modern cryptologists about this "Sphinx" that had been in his library for many years."

As an educated man, he would have been accustomed to reading Latin.  He may not have done much reading in the Czech language.  Plus, I expect he would have been very thrown off by the strange Voynichese alphabet that was then 200 years old to him.  I don't think the Voynich Manuscript was intentionally enciphered but I think it does use a lot of shorthand or abbreviations. Using casual shorthand or abbreviations was probably even less standardized than using an intentional enciphering.

Like many people, I think the words on the top of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. are the Five Classical Greek Elements.

Air:  olkchs ( olkchs )
Water:  otedy ( otedy )
Aether:  otork ( otork )
Fire:  otol ( otol )
Earth (Land):  dchdy ( dchdy )

That "o" ( o ) at the start of so many Voynichese words is weird.  I think it was part of their casual shorthand or abbreviations.

If we drop the "o" from "otedy" ( otedy ) and just look at "tedy" ( tedy ), the EVA "t" ( t ) would need to be "v" and the EVA "y" ( y ) would need to be "a" to make "veda" which is somewhat close to "voda" or "vodou".

Does changing "t" to "v" and "y" to "a" help with reading any of the words?

That might make "Fire", "vol" or the "l" could also be something else.
