How am I supposed to do that? Get an identical clone of a successful academic and strip them of the showmanship and see what happens?
If the question was to give an example of successful academics who certainly possess(ed) some showmanship skills, then it's easy, take any academic that is known and popular outside of academia. Feynman, Einstein, Russel, Sapolsky, Hawking (which is truly remarkable, giving all the physical limitations). Showmanship is about engaging the audience. It's unlikely one can be a successful lecturer without some showmanship.
