(I think) The subtle difference in my theory is that is was to be used as a "reference" to generate a continued revenue, which would follow more closely the pattern of medieval frauds in the form of fake relics and the like. promoting a tourist/pilgrim trade whereby they could sell souveniers etc. This is based on that but following a more modern practice of spiritualists. All of this to make themselves look legitimate.
