I haven't found time to move anywhere further since then. Sad

Anton, that thread, especially your contributions, are exactly along my lines of thinking. Thank you for that tasty piece of Yuletide brain candy.

I agree wholeheartedly that there is wisdom in taking the VMS's text at face value, as a self-sufficient system of symbolic language, which maps directly to meaning. By this line of thought, attempting to map the glyphs to vocalizations or any known natural human language, spoken or written, is a red herring. It may be more fruitful to simply match glyphs directly to meanings, looking for clues in vords' arrangements alongside images and other vords.

The downside, of course, is that we're talking about thin wisps of context. There is little imagery or non-Voynichese text in the VMS which is unambiguous in what it shows and where it takes its influence. I'm much more a verbal than a visual thinker, and don't know a lot about art and literary history, and so I'm much more focused on the text than the imagery. But I'm keeping a close eye on the imagery-sleuthing that many folks here are doing, because the more reliable context we have, the better our chances of finding a Rosetta Stone for the text.

I'm going to be doing some more thinking about my idea for a lexicon in light of this discussion you linked for me, and probably be back with some feedback and ideas for moving forward at some point this Holiday season. If I end up making this lexicon, I'll be happy to make it public domain and distribute it to anyone who might find it useful, likely as an Excel file. I'd encourage any corrections or helpful additions, and I'd anticipate it being a work in process with many subtly different versions.
