Short syllables with a generous sprinkling of vowels (even nonsense syllables) will always be interpreted as mostly readable text (especially in Romance languages and in Arabic) by Google Translate, which is designed to make "good guesses" about what the writer might have meant.
I don't know for certain that Hoffman used Google Translate, but I strongly suspect he did.
