Although the project started as an attempt to match the small plants to the large plants, it has been opened up to all internal plant matches now and all participants are welcome to add not only their own ratings and comments to the workbook but also to add their own matches that haven't already been included. We have 2 columns currently for new participants to be added (columns M and N) and more columns can be added if needed. New participants simply need to login to their Google account first (free to register and get one if you don't already have one) and then change the (enter your name) header to their own name (e.g. Wladimir D or you could shorten it to WD).

Before adding your own matches, first check to see if they have already been added. Use the filter button on column E (VN Folio Browser), then click Clear, then type the first folio number you wish to check for in the search field, then select each of the matching options listed below the search field, then click OK.

If you don't see your match listed, first clear the filter (by clicking the column E filter button again, then click Clear again, the click Select All, then click OK) and then add your new match to the next blank row at the bottom. You may want to wait until you are the only one in the workbook (you can tell if you see their profile icon in the top right of the workbook to the left of the last edit clock icon) before adding new matches, especially if you have several you wish to add and if it will take awhile. For each of your matches that aren't already in the ratings sheet:
  • you will need to complete entries in columns A-D:
    • Folio # 1
    • Folio # 2
    • and for Folio # 2
      • the row #
      • and position # on the page
      • if only 1 plant on the page, row will be 1 and position will be 1
    • if there is only a left plant and a right plant on the page, it can still be listed in Folio # 1 but with an L or an R appended to the folio #
  • Type WD in column F (short form for the person originating the match; MK=Mark, ThP=Theodore Petersen, RZ=Rene)
  • and a match number in column G (1,2,3, etc.; Rene numbered all his and ThP's matches first then removed the ones that were duplicates of Mark's, which is why those numbers have gaps in the sequence)

Don't worry about the filter button on your ratings column nor the column E or other column links nor the formulas in columns O and P nor your individual comments sheet nor the comments comparison. As these are structural changes I added or have fixed before, each time I go into the workbook (when others are not editing), I look for any row additions and will adjust or correct the structure accordingly. Once you see in the ratings sheet a link on your ratings column header, you will know I have completed setup of your individual comments sheet and you can start entering your comments as well as your ratings (it may take longer for me to add your comments to the comments comparison). If you have plant match images, like Mark and Rene added in this thread, I can add links to those in the ratings sheet, same as I did for Mark's and Rene's. Simply post the match number and the link to the match image (if external of this site) or post the image itself (if uploaded to this site) here in this thread and I can take it from there.

Note that our ratings sheet only compares 2 images at a time and I'm not sure if it is viable to change it structurally so as to compare 3 or more images at a time. So if there are any suggestions for matching more than 2 at a time, as I noticed in yours and I think also Rene's, then each match of 2 would need to be added separately to the ratings sheet (i.e. plant A vs plant B on 1 row, plant B vs plant C on the next, and plant A vs plant C on the next, and so on).

This may sound like a lot but it really isn't once you get started. But if you would prefer I add the matches for you, I can as time permits and then have you check them when I'm done.

I included all of these instructions here not only for your use but also any new participant to reference. Let me know if this helps.

Maybe. But since these were posted in that other thread by Koen and since he is already a participant in the internal plant match ratings project, it should be up to him as to whether they should be added to the ratings sheet or not.

We welcome your input in the ratings workbook and if you have ratings of your own that aren't already included, you are welcome to add them as a participant (though you may want to wait and see what Wladimir is adding first). See my reply to Wladimir today for more details. And if you find any other internal plant matches that others have noted in other threads, feel free to post here to ask about adding them.
It would be very helpful if participants would refrain from making structural changes to the workbook (i.e. moving or removing columns/rows, removing links, changing formulas, etc.). There are numerous formulas in the workbook linking data in multiple places within it. I went into the workbook today and the only way I could fix the issues in it was to revert to the last known version without errors. This deleted a lot of recent data but I made copies of it before reverting and then added it back in. I don't think I missed anything but anyone who was editing recently should check their data.

Also, please use whole numbers in your ratings column and refrain from adding comments to them. Comments should be added to your individual comments sheet instead. If there is a comment you need to ensure other participants see (i.e. a question or a request to remove data), it may be best to post it in this thread instead. Or you can add it to the wish list tab.
Merrimacga, you can lock any range that people shouldn't edit if you like, that should at least offer some protection.

Maybe. Like the last time when I protected the comments comparison, we may have to run a test but I have to check the available options and do some tests of my own first. I have to be certain any protection added won't restrict participants' ability to input ratings and comments and, when applicable, add new matches. There are several things I know I can do in Excel but not sure I can do them in Google sheets. Stay tuned. I won't make such changes while others are editing. This may take awhile.

I found another error in the workbook tonight and corrected it. Fortunately, this time it was a minor correction and I didn't have to revert to a previous version.

I also played around with the protection in just the ratings sheet and I am ready for one or more participants to test the changes (also added this as a completed change in the wish list tab):
  • In columns A-G, P-Q and cells R2:V5, I protected the cells below the header for rows that have entries so only Koen and I can edit them. I can add protection to new row entries in these columns as they are added. I didn't protect the headers themselves because I wasn't sure if that would affect usage of the filter buttons.
    • Test 1: I need participants other than myself and Koen to see if they can edit any of these cells.
    • Test 2: I need participants to confirm the filter buttons on these columns still work correctly. Please be sure to clear the filter when done testing.
  • In columns H-O for all cells below the header for rows that have entries, I added data validation so that there are now dropdowns that specify the selection that can be entered (0,1,2,3). Blanks are accepted but other entries will be rejected and a warning message will display. The data validation should not affect the formulas in columns P-Q and linked cells elsewhere in the workbook should still display correctly.
    • Test 3: I need participants to try using the dropdown button to rate a match in their rating column to make sure the dropdown is working correctly in each cell.
    • Test 4: Entries can be typed in manually as well. I need participants to test this by trying to enter both valid and invalid entries to make sure both the data validation and the error message are working correctly.

Please add a new post here to let me know the results of the tests if you perform them. Hopefully, this will do the trick and reduce or eliminate the need for reverting to previous versions or other error corrections.
Wladimir has added his matches to the workbook and I just finished all the image links. His matches have also been added to the individual comments sheets and the comments comparison has also been updated. I'm still checking for duplicates and found a couple other minor corrections that were needed. When I find a duplicate, one where folio 1 and folio 2 match in number, row and position, if the later entry has no ratings, I will remove the duplicate and I was able to do this for one of the duplicates I found so far. However, if the later entry has ratings on it, I will mark it for deletion so participants first have an opportunity to review and move or remove the later entry rating and any comments associated with it. When I see the duplicate no longer contains data, I will remove it. I found one such duplicate so far: WD 4 (row 141) is a duplicate of MK 65 (row 66). WD 4 has been yellow highlighted with text added to the Folio Browser cell indicating it is marked for deletion.
It seems line 143 duplicates 111 ThP

Thanks Wladimir. I marked row 143 for deletion and added the link to your image file to row 111. None of the other ThP matches have links to match images in column G yet.
