I would rather suggest that someone in the past knew the original language and the script, and thus was able to leave margin notes about its content in other languages. This is not the same thing as "managed to decipher".

She doesn't appear to be familiar with the common form of final-ess. It is almost certainly "mus/muß" not muz. I don't know why she read it as "muz". The z was never written like that and the final-ess very frequently was.
Perhaps it's a different letter from final-ess, but it's not "z".
She read "ven" as "der". This is not the common reading either, by people who are familiar with medieval script.

This is interesting, because D'Imperio 1978 is still quoted You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. interpreting the writing in the bottom left corner of You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. as "der Mussteil", "a High German phrase for 'a widow's share'." 

If the correct reading is rather "ven Mussteil" or "ven Muss[ ]del", can we interpret the language and meaning of these words?

The word "del" means "portion/part" in Saxon, northern German, and Scandinavian dialects and languages.

So "del" for "portion" would be completely reasonable. In English we have a similar word "dole" for portion (or "to dole out", to portion out), which is related to Germanic, Norse.

Reading the end of muß as a double-ess is also reasonable.

JKP, you're right. Gladyseva should make a decision, either she wants to publish or not. Trusting that this will sell the book is a daring strategy.

That's a good point. It's enough flammable material to keep me warm through the winter, but probably not winter 2020, I doubt if it will be out by then... maybe winter 2021.
