Even the oldest manuscripts, from before the 9th century, sometimes had as many as 20 names listed for a single plant.

If it's a topic he doesn't know, he just makes something up that sounds good to him. He did it in his paper too.

His doctoral research was in belief systems (not linguistics as some people were saying). I guess he feels that if he believes it strongly enough he can convince everyone else.

LOL! There have been more "solutions" in Latin than in any another other language... Latin—the mother of all Romance languages.

Plus, Cheshire didn't say it was a Romance language, he said it was proto-Romance (which, if he understood it properly would be evolving vulgar Latin, but he refers to it as though it were its own "thing" as Lisa Fagin-Davis so aptly pointed out).

Monica, I don't know how Alisa has translated it yet, other than two words that appear to be abbreviated in different ways (which doesn't sound hopeful), so I don't have any opinions on her "solution" yet, but I agree that you are using a consistent repeatable approach. I was able to repeat your system to obtain most of the same "base" words you have in your translation. I say "base" words because there's still a lack of grammatical cohesiveness and a level of subjective interpretation in terms of "linking" the words, but your system is still MUCH more defendable than anything Cheshire has done.

Cheshire's method only works in a few spots and does not work on the manuscript as a whole and is more subjective in terms of word breaks and significantly more subjective in terms of word interpretation (he cherrypicks from whatever language suits his needs).

So Gladyseva isn't actually publishing the dissertation or even reasonably sized excerpts on Research Gate or Academia, as far as I can see. Instead, she is basically "tweeting on" them as though they were newswire outlets, to advertise her so-called solution.


I didn't think that was permitted on those sites. I thought there had to be at least some substantive academic content.

Has anyone found a copy of Gladyseva's dissertation that she keeps saying we should read (or at least a few pages)? If there isn't one then could this be early publicity for publishing a book?

I know I should not flog a dead horse, but what is the whole thing about? A "solution" that is not published does not benefit anyone. Or will she sell a book or something ?

I'm also confused by this whole thing. Is this for a phd? Why is it promoted with a book trailer?

I don't know, but if all she is doing is advertising and not publishing anything at all, then they shouldn't be on ResearchGate or Academia. An ad for "vapor research" is not a research paper, it's spam.
