One of, if not the, most controversial identifications on my page is the top left rosette as representing the Council of Basel. So why did I decide on that?
First of all Basel lies part way between Schaffhausen and Geneva. The Council of Basel was the main reason for travelling a journey like that at that time.
Identifying the top left rosette is very difficult as it is the least detailed of the Rosettes leaving it open to many interpretations. I freely admit that I have interpreted it in the context of the only explanation that makes sense to me.
(Abbot Antonio Barbavara attended the Council of Basel as did other members of the Barbavara family.)
