Alabaster was commonly used for religious icons as it's nice and white.
No idea if the stuff was used for alchemy - most stuff was I suppose. But it's not that common in Europe, I think most deposits are in southern Spain, Italy and the Balkans?
It's the basis of plaster of Paris, which has been used to set bones since the... 17th century? (not sure off the top of my head).
Selenite, of course, coming from lunar. Wikipedia says the term has been in common usage since the 15th century but gives no citation.
Old cave houses here traditionally used it as panes of glass in a tradition that's supposeed to date back millenia.
