In his monumental encyclopedic work Musurgia Universalis (1650), Athanasius Kircher synthesized the science, music theory, Christian theology, and Neoplatonic mysticism of his time into the concept of so-called "natural music" (musica naturalis), which represents the hidden mathematical and harmonic order of all creation.
