Could it be that this represents a system for generating music?

Register or Login to view.I have read your article @Maruyama Toru, it seems to me it does not concern just music: you propose the 'grafting' interpretation for features of some plants root, a musical interpretation for Bio/Balneo, Zodiac etc., and what you call 'Hanasaki system' for some other diagrams. This cab be not immediately clear to someone reading this thread.

I told you to be careful, because it's easy to see in Voynich imagery whatever one wants to see. It's not that you are wrong: you might even be right, we just don't know, but your ideas ('hypothesis') are just one set in an innumerable list of possibilities. Putting forward an idea is not enough, you also need convincing evidence.

Yes, this might be, nothing which is not logically forbidden is impossible, but it also might be not. I remember someone proposed plants represent noble lineages of people (or something like that). Here too: it might be, but it might be not, ie.: plants could represent musical figures... or anything else, really. Can you show how to construct a counterpoint (as you suggest in the article) musical figure starting from an Herbal page? That would be something. It's a hard world.

One of the key elements of counterpoint is the technique of "imitation"—not just in terms of vertical relationships, but in horizontal ones as well. Composers like Bach were masters who fully embraced this approach. There are even illustrations that demonstrate how this functions, and I plan to share this material on the site in due course.

Many of the root structures are also depicted through this very technique of imitation: a single thick root is drawn, then varied, extended, shortened, or otherwise adapted—a process that mirrors exactly how a primary musical motif is imitated.

Naturally, the leaves follow the same pattern. However, since leaves in the natural world inherently possess these characteristics, this alone does not constitute a complete explanation.

Yet, given that music itself is an expression of the beauty found in nature and in humanity, one could argue that this script—by exploring these forms—offers a fresh perspective on the true nature of the natural world.

Needless to say, the flower petals, too, exhibit an extraordinary degree of regularity, imbued with a distinctly rhythmic quality.

@Maruyama Toru, given we are taking about counterpoint and Bach, I ask you again, can you show me how to derive a musical theme from the Herbal? A two-voices counterpoint piece maybe (the simplest possible), like this:

And I don't mean doing it by vague words and concepts: with vague words and concepts I can explain you how to build Gothic cathedrals from the Herbal pages were I in the mood for some waste of time. You must do it in detail,  to show how that actually works. Be sure I'm not disparaging your work Maruyama (I actually find the 'grafting' idea to be rather cool and interesting), I'm trying to show you how sound theories are built.
