Voynich is encrypted ENOCH

[Radim Dobeš]

Why is this necessary? (I mean the encryption algorithm)

I think this is exactly the right point. Almost no one in 15th century Europe could read Ge'ez. There is zero point in encrypting it further. Admittedly it's what we now call Security by Obscurity, but given that Enoch was retained as canon by the Ethiopian church, I'd have thought like every other book of the bible that they'd want it translated in to Latin or German or Italian so more people could read it, not fewer..

I must respond to this. Ethiopian envoys, diplomats, and church officials have been present in Europe since the 14th century (roughly from 1306). Therefore, it is not true that there was no one here capable of reading Ge'ez. There were many such individuals, even at the Papal court. I can cite the example of Abba Gregorius, who notably interacted with Kircher. People were aware of the existence of the Book of Enoch—they knew of it—yet they did not officially bring it over; this seems illogical, given that they could have done so as early as the 14th century, rather than waiting until the 18th century. Consequently, the claim that James "discovered" it is inaccurate.
