the horns of Moses are the result of a translation error from (vowel-less) Hebraic -- what should have been "shining face" became "horned face".
... and thus is forged the culture of a whole continent ...

Indeed. In later imagery horns were replaced by beams of light, still looking like some horns though 



Horned Moses is however only a Western thing. He appears in Latin Vulgate translated by Jerome but not in the Orthodox Church (Greek and Old Slavonic Bible versions) where this mistake wasn't made.
