VMS – the depicted rosette represents the Second Heaven from the (Slavonic) Second Book of Enoch.
The Second Heaven is a place of great darkness. It serves as a prison for the rebellious angels (the Watchers) who disobeyed God; they are held there until the Last Judgment.
In Orthodox icons depicting the Last Judgment, a rosette appears in the scene of the resurrection from the earth and the sea, representing the moment when the dead are yielded up from the earth and the sea for the final judgment.
In both of these allegories—the apocryphal Second Heaven of the Second Book of Enoch and the iconographic scene of the resurrection from the earth and the sea—the key motif is a state of temporary waiting in a cosmic intermediate space prior to the absolute end of time.

The images on Ethiopian magical protective scrolls feature angels with a ring-like pattern on their garments. These represent watchful eyes. On the rosette, these eyes symbolize the guardian angels who keep watch over the fallen angels.
