Was K always included in the alphabetical order?
Hello,
It existed in the German alphabet. However, this character k was not always used by scribes who had a latin background! Instead they used "c". c9 = /kus/
For example "Frederic9".
This applies also for the scribe of f116v. This scribe very likely had a non-German background. Probably romance or slavic but he wrote a German note. Thats why we have to remember, that there are "mistakes" because the author was not quite sure how to spell a word particularly since he tried to write in the vernacular.
Furthermore we have to pronounce the word "ceuc" as /koik/ (like in Engl. boy) It means quicklime which was used to prepare a kind of soft soap for the ointment.
The character v here has to be read as vowel u (as in devs = deus). v represents the four sounds v, (like in vino) f, u and German w. Therefore it is necessary to
read it according to the context.
Kind regards Monika
N.B. All this is explained in detail in my study on f 116v, You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
