I do not see the vms diagram as resembling the Achimedes screw drawing at all, as there is no spiral to the vms image at all. It is simply curved upon itself, each level resting on the curve below it. Nor do I think the vms drawing resembles a corrected image thereof, since then you have a corkscrew inside the works.

I don't deny the lack of connection to Archimedes' screw and the coincidence. I'm not really sure if the author was trying to disguise the images of internal organs. Rather, he was making them implicit to us but clear to someone who knows what they're referring to.
In any case, I didn't notice the similarity to the Archimedes screw...
