Perhaps, but only if we consider it in the context of other illustrations...

Indeed, that was not the only nonsensical drawing in that notebook.  I recall at least one other pipe with water spewing out from both ends.

It occurred to me that those errors may be original.  Namely the author may have been a quack who pretended to be a Leonardo, and "sold" himself as such to the Rich and Powerful, but actually knew nothing of mechanics, hydraulics, weapons etc, and copied his sketches (with all those errors) from other books.  Like certain modern entrepreneurs.  

But I don't  put much probability on that theory.  It would require assuming that the Rich and Powerful of the Middle Ages were as stupid as those of today...
