I'm not entirely sure what you mean by “roles,” but the assignment of letters to VMS glyphs in EVA transcription is, in principle, interchangeable. This wouldn't matter for statistical analyses, for example; the main thing is that the assignments are unambiguous and consistent. With some words, however, it’s not clear exactly what constitutes a letter. In the case of “daiin,” for example, it could be composed of d-a-iin, meaning that “iin” forms a single letter (contrary to the EVA transcription).
