Register or Login to view. The reason is that the author probably had access to the lost texts of Enoch. (rediscovered in the 20th century). In order to preserve the text, or to be able to bring it out, he had to encrypt it. That is why angels do not have wings. The text looks like a herbarium and a recipe book, etc.
Aren't those the texts "discovered" as being still part of the Ethiopian canon of the Bible? Weren't they "discovered" in the 18th century or so?
All the best, --stolfi
The first Book of Enoch was found complete in Ethiopia in the Ge'ez language in the 18th century. The second Book of Enoch was rediscovered in the 19th century in Old Church Slavonic. But the Voynich manuscript contains both. The author of the Voynich manuscript probably had access in the 15th century to a book with both Enochs in one language (probably the original Greek, or Aramaic, or Coptic, or another). This book exists somewhere. Part of Enoch is quoted in the Vatican Fragments. What if there is more in the Vatican and the author of the Voynich manuscript had access to it.
