The fashion dating is accurate. It's just that the misinterpretation of the various 'expert' evaluations that is problematic. Their expert opinion should lower our reliance on the subjective interpretation of such an ambiguous manuscript. All such opinions, hit or miss, that are previous to C-14 are irrelevant.
The C-14 dating is compatible with the fashion chronology - first half of the 15th C.
There is also the cosmic comparison of the VMs representation with the illustrations in BNF Fr. 565 [c. 1410] and Harley 334 [2nd Q 15th]. Both are from Paris. They share an uncommon structure. And then, the Harley mermaid connects back to the VMs depiction with its version of mythical Melusine of Luxembourg. Both of these manuscripts are compatible with the C-14 dating.
Other things in the VMs are more general and historical, but they reveal an artist who knew a lot about the first half of the 15th c., including things not noted by WMV (afaIk) or by subsequent investigators of the modern era - until recently, as noted above. There is a gap of information that WMV doesn't even know about.
