"Every money as a reward is way too low, with respect to the hours spent, and in the end not really an incentive to work harder."
This is in a nutshell the prize problem. Excellent synthesis Davidsch!
I’m sure if a real solution will be released and largely accepted by Voynich community, including academics, some prizes will be directed to the author(s). Difficult to predict what kind of, how many and how much money will bring (if any).
Finding a solution, maybe after years of unpaid research, it would be intrinsic rewarding for the author(s) (the satisfaction to do it, to be the first to access the information or/and to become recognized and renowned if you are looking for). Rene Zandbergen wrote a “do and don’t” list for the case one has a solution.
Once the solution is published and accepted, some peoples and companies will take advantage to make some money by publishing the VMS’ deciphered version, producing a documentary movie about (National Geographic, History Chanel etc) or even a movie (Disney, Netflix, etc).
My questions are: Is that fair? How can the author(s) protect the solution against any unauthorized use? Can the solution be protected by Intellectual Property (IP) rights? How about the valuable and significant contributions of other researchers to the solution, including many hard-working Voynich enthusiasts writing on this website?
> It is good to know the answers since many (if not all) of us are very close to “the real Voynich solution” ?. At least myself I found it a couple of times, but I lost it at the validation tests… What I never lost is my enthusiasm.
