One old idea in this Forum has been to comprise such a reference for which I suggested a fashionable title VMBOK (Voynich Manuscript Body of Knowledge). The You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. section of the Forum is dedicated to that task. However, this work requires much effort and dedication, not only from the mods team but also from the community, and time proved it not very popular, the section is dormant. Maybe the idea was not that good after all.

What surprised me was that the level of agreement was much lower than I expected.

We can't even come to consensus on simple things like the identity of a plaintext letter on 116v. Is it a g or an s? And opinions about whether the VMS is natural language (in its present form) were split down the middle. Every time we have a poll, I am surprised by the responses.

Or I'll see something posted that's factually incorrect, and within minutes there are three thank yous (with the thankers assuming, I guess, that the information is correct).

There's almost no agreement on anything. It makes it very difficult to document "the state of the art" in VMS studies.
