You're right, it was worse. Glaring historical and logical errors and one of the top publishers let it through and the editor even upheld the decision post hoc.

I dunno. I see people on this forum doing excellent work, in-the-trenches hard work and keeping up the quality at the same time, and I know some of them would have trouble getting published because they don't have extra letters after their names. It doesn't seem very merit-based does it?
