Gavin, you should take a look at Monica's transliterations and translations. Whether or not you agree with them, they are consistent and the transliterations are repeatable by anyone who pays attention to how she is doing it.

While this seems to be off-topic in this thread, it also seems important enough.

The above is not at all my understanding of Monicas translations. I have not looked at this myself, but read comments from others. According to this, there is first a straightforward transliteration step, but the next step is based on looking for a 'similar word' in Hebrew, which includes dropping and inserting individual characters.
This is not repeatable.
