Yeah especially some kind of millet, it seemed possible as soon as JKP posted the weirdly romantic millet harvesting scene. And you are right Common Man, the leaves in the VM drawing do appear to sheath around the stem.

Here's some more cereal crops (also millet?) from related MS (Historia Plantarum).
