I didn't notice this until now, but Cheshire actually started advocating repatriation of the VMS to Italy in order to provoke discussion.

He also made up a story about the VMS leaving the Naples-area castle in 1912:

Rene, I must not have read it at the time, at least the part about repatriating it to Italy (maybe I was planning to go back to it).

It seems kind of a cheap way to stir up emotion in order to create interest in his paper. I feel rather relieved that there are no replies.
