A thought experiment: What if the Voynich Manuscript were something like Tolkiens Works, but without any surviving context?
Imagine discovering a book written entirely in an invented language, accompanied by illustrations of unfamiliar but similar plants, rituals and cosmological systems. With no translations, explanations or other writings to provide context. Like the silmarillion written in one of tolkiens invented languages and artwork for said book found houndreds of years from now.
Would we necessarily recognise it as a fictional world or would we assume it was an encoded account of our own world/hostory?
Could the Voynich Manuscript be a constructed symbolic or fictional knowledge system blending real medieval knowledge with imagined elements?
I’m curious wether this possibility has been seriously explored in Voynich research ?
