Salt was traded in forms such as discs, blocks, cones or chunks. The shape depended on the vessels in which the salt crystallised during the boiling process.
That was my first thought in relooking at it also. It could signify that all the surrounding items can be dried and ground into seasonings and/or preservatives. Most sodium chloride salt can be seen by eye to have this cubic structure, and the blue could have been used to indicate transparency or reflection, just as it would if it were an ice cube, but the ice cube seems far less likely to me. If it was actually meant to depict blue salt, then it would be higher in potassium and lower in sodium, but this is evidently quite rare in nature, but could denote the surrounding items to be good as green manure as well, ie fertilizer for growing other plants. -

There is definitely blue salt, but it mostly comes from Persia. However, bluish and even yellowish-blue salt (see Picture) can also be found in other countries..

But there is evidence that the colors were applied only after the book was bound, and that the binding was arranged by someone who could not read the text -- implying that the Author was no longer around.
Therefore, when analyzing the images, one should ignore the colors as distracting noise. For the Author, that brick was just an unpainted outline.

The name "papirus" in the corner must be an advance tab for the plant on the next page. The plant on that page is "papaver rubrus(?)", that is "red poppy".

Its stalks are about 2 meters tall, 4 cm wide at the base, tapering slightly, with absolutely no leaves or branches except that tuft of "hair" at the top. The stalks have a thin though green skin and are filled with a dense white pith with long straight fibers. The writing material was made from that pith -- sliced into strips, pounded thin, laid out in two layers with perpendicular fibers, all held together with a bit of gum arabic or the like.)

This herbal has several plants on each page (combined with animals - see the sparrow/passer).
There are the 'papaver rubeus' and the 'paritaria' that look like plants.
The papyrus plant is represented by a rectangle, i.e. a sheet of writing material.
This for me is the most elegant solution for what the Voynich MS represents, because it is all about plants.
Of course, this does not necessarily mean it is the correct solution. -

It is a book of hands and a writing pen, it is part of the text from the second book of Enoch: And the LORD said to Vrevoil, "Bring out the books from my storehouses, and fetch a pen for speed-writing, and give it to Enoch and read him the books." 〈And Vrevoil hurried and brought me the books,〉 a knife(?), and ink(?).
