In my opinion, this is one of the clearest examples showing that the VMS represents a map of Enoch’s journey through the various heavens. The accompanying image includes direct quotes from the Book of Enoch. The North is the place where people live and is divided into three parts; the East symbolizes the sun and comes first; the South is where the Chosen One descends (hence the Tetragrammaton or the letter *resh*); and the West is where the sun sets. -

It influenced the development of the Shield of Trinity.
I was going to ask you to clarify some other things but I see now that there is no point in doing so. You are just going to use whatever looks like the thing you are trying to identify, without any correlation to its original meaning. It should make a nice picture book.
I had hoped you could tell me the origin of the south marker idea, but I am guessing now that it is just something you ascribed yourself to the 16th century figure you mentioned earlier which resembles the marker better, in my opinion, but is anachronistic. -

Linda, forget about the Tetragrammaton symbol; that was an old post from the beginning of this thread. It has no bearing on the map's meaning or interpretation. The Resh symbol (cited here from the angelic Malachim alphabet) is much older and appears in Coptic, Ethiopian, Greek, and other magical systems. So, to recap: 1) The marks in the corners represent the cardinal directions. 2) Resh is not a symbol for South. Original meaning: The word Resh derives from the ancient Semitic word *Rosh*, meaning head, leader, supreme, or beginning (just like in the name of the holiday Rosh Hashanah—"Head of the Year"). 3) In the Book of Enoch, the South is defined as the place where the Most High descends: the South is called South because the Most High descends there. The text literally states that He who is blessed forever descends there in a very special sense. He is also called the Head of Days.
So, to summarize:
1) The Head of Days descends in the South.
2) Resh is a symbol for head, leader, or supreme.
3) The South is marked with the Resh symbol.
That is all. My definition is final and complete

I do agree with you that there is a way to look at the rosettes where they are meant in some way to be viewed by the diagonal layout.
I am not yet convinced that the TO map means north, because it is turned in such a way as mid outer Europe, following the Isadore tradition, at least, is pointed at the rest of the rosettes. But, what would be north on an Isadore TO is then pointed to the southwest. Again, on the diagonal. So there is that complication.
I do think the two suns can mean West and East. I actually agree with this on the basis that the rocky portion portrayed that kind of looks like a real map, actually looks to me like a real map of something a little west of something often referred to as west. Anyway, I think we can agree on the possibility of the rest falling into line with north up, and that the bottom corner would be south, for whatever reasons, I am fine with your reasons for thinking so being different than mine if we can agree on the possibility that it should be looked at in more ways than one, to see what else we see.
Insofar as your south symbol in the solomon's seal magic saturn stuff, I have not yet seen other renditions of it, and Ai tells me that there are lost versions of the past, so who knows. I saw something close today, but it seemed to be an astrological symbol that I did not quite understand, it was like yours but no circle on the v tip, next to a virgo, next to others i didn't quite grok either, but it had handwriting below that seemed to write out the glyphs in a more understandable way, where i think it meant caput draconis. I also saw one that was a closed triangle but I don't know if it meant trinity or something else, it had circles and triangles all over the place, plus magic writing and other stuff. Anyway I will try to get somewhere with it, if I can, but the example didn't seem to mean anything in particular, other than related to magic. However, here same as the vms, if you turn it on the diagonal, counterclockwise, it points down. -

Just to be certain, I will quote this again: *Resh* is not a symbol for the south, but for an event taking place in the south.
Just as the sun is not a symbol for the east and west, but for the process occurring there.
Similarly, the T-O symbol is not generally a symbol for the north, but for a specific place described and located in the north.
The book *The Key of Solomon* (Latin: *Clavicula Salomonis*) likely originated during the Italian Renaissance, in the 14th or 15th century.
The pentacles in the book feature Hebrew inscriptions consisting of divine names, names of angels, or verses from the biblical Psalms. The letter *Resh* thus appears in various words (e.g., in the names of angels such as Metatron, in divine names, or in words denoting a beginning or head—*Rosh*).
The VMS contains a multitude of magical and talismanic symbols (both angelic and divine).
I am presenting further examples from *Clavicula Salomonis* taken from a more recent edition, though the original dates back to the 14th century.

They carried me to the murmuring stream by the western fire that heralds every sunset.
In the seventh heaven, according to the Second Book of Enoch, there is an immense and extraordinary light (mandorla).
This river represents liquid light and energy associated with the setting sun—into which it symbolically sinks—while simultaneously forming a boundary leading to the underworld and the sites of future judgment.
