Notice that some kneeling people in the picture have kind of bowls or hats.
I believe they were used to collect money and therefore symbolize that the kneeling man is a beggar.
The dog is a sign that the man is blind.
Now something tells me that these "pincers" may be actually badly and dumbily copied beggar's bowl

In the depiction of God creating the world on the sixth day on folio f80v—which I showed again in #263—there is a sleeping or dead animal. It symbolizes the slumber, death, awakening, and rebirth associated with the legend of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus. The animal is a dog, known in Islamic tradition as Qitmir. -

In art history, the term "Beatus" refers to any richly illustrated medieval manuscript containing the text of the *Commentary on the Apocalypse*. In my view, much of the pictorial content of the VMS can be found in these manuscripts. The object the figures are holding is a lute.
