I’ve been spending a little time with the zodiac folios and related cycle diagrams in a loose, exploratory way. Nothing systematic yet, mostly looking, noticing repetition, and following my curiosity rather than trying to solve or identify anything.
What keeps catching my attention is how much of the structure can be read as temporal rather than symbolic. The way divisions repeat, how some sequences appear to stop or change rhythm, and how different folios seem to care about duration or flow more than labels. It feels less like decoding and more like watching how time might be handled or experienced across the pages.
I don’t know whether this overlaps with work that’s already been done, and I’m not presenting this as a theory. I’m sharing it simply as something I’ve been playing with visually and intuitively, in case it’s useful, familiar, or sparks a connection for someone else working in this area.
If this belongs somewhere else or connects to existing threads, I’m happy to be pointed in the right direction. -

Considering that the manuscript contains images of herbs, it is logical to assume that the meaning of the zodiac diagrams is temporary (in terms of the fact that they depict the time of planting plants or the like). Nothing unusual. -

I also see it as being about time, but probably much longer than anyone else is thinking, I think this zodiac denotes a Platonic or Great Year, where each of the roundels are not months, but ages. That is why there are containers (architecture, infrastructure) and clothing (culture, language) in the more recent ages, but not the rest, everyone is naked and nomadic for most of it. That would be because written or unearthed history only goes back for about 3 or 4 ages, and brings us to the ice age, or its aftermath (flooding). It also starts with Pisces because that is and was the current age.
Looking at it this way puts a different spin on the nymphs in quire 13, which in my interpretation is a periplus around an ecumene that existed during the age of Aries. The lack of clothing and architecture could mean we are looking at the world from a more prehistorical perspective, from when these places were first inhabited. Could explain why (sometimes dormant) volcanoes and hot springs seem to be emphasized, they would have been the places inhabited during the ice ages.
