Leaving aside the artist's personal preferences, this page is, for me, a clear representation of the medieval cosmos, and its correct interpretation is so important that it explains a good part of the Voynich imagery. I won't elaborate further because I've already stated this repeatedly in my thread. -

Interestingly though, the drawer seems to recycle some aspects between buildings in the ROS and pharma vessels, whatever that might mean.
I think so too. Even just looking at the pharma vessels in isolation, it's not hard to see many of them them as little towers on pedestals. But I agree that it's hard to see any of the six items on the rosettes as unambiguous towers, even though this appears to be people's standard interpretation. -

That's just it. Ambiguity. The artist knows that their skills are mediocre and uses that to create ambiguity. There are two (or more) interpretations. The artist wants to include both interpretations. Not to specify one and to clearly exclude the other. That is ambiguity.
The VMs artists have raised up a forest in which to hide the Golden Fleece - a hidden text in circular segments designated by patterned markers. This is disguise.
The VMs cosmos is a pairing of two historical entities to create an intentional oxymoron. This is pure trickery.
VMs White Aries contains a built-in duality used to disguise a significant historical identification based on heraldry and heraldic canting. This is deception. The radial cloaking device.
Then there is the VMs critter / Agnus Dei / Golden Fleece, the mermaid Melusine and her four companions, and the nine ladies in the half-arcaded tub, and Philomela, Oresme's cosmos, the nebuly line, and Shirakatsi's wheel, New Jerusalem, and Colette of Corbie.
Are you keeping up? It's not what you thought. It's an intricate puzzle based on "medieval" information. And certain portions of that "medieval" information have generally slipped by the bye in the modern era. [Present company excepted.] -

I agree. To see the rivers of paradise there, one must disregard the very clear pillars holding up the rectangle, and the similar tent just next to it.
Besides, a rectangle with two crossing diagonals is a simple design that occurs with thousands of different meanings. Like the flag of Scotland, the email icon, a checked box in a form, a farm gate... So its occurrence cannot be taken to have any specific meaning, or any meaning at all.

As for the towers, one reason for assuming that the middle section could be towers is the illustration in the upper right corner (towers with swallowtail merlons and below). It is at least quite possible that this is a transferable motif when considering ROS as a whole. This view is supported by the fact that ROS can be seen on a single folio and not on individual pages. It is therefore reasonable to assume that it could be a map. Nothing unusual for this format. Of course, the hope of finding a 1:1 comprehensible Mappa Mundi is in vain. After all, we are dealing with the VMS here. -

Hm, that is a good point. More generally, I would say that the Author's goal was to record things that he thought no one else knew. He would not waste time and money writing things that could be found in other books, or that were known to other scholars, even if only a few of them.
Thus we should not expect to find in the VMS a chapter of Aristotle, pages from Dioscorides, an exegesis of Revelation, a map of Europe...
