  Where did you get that hat?
  
  Originally part of another tread, the introduction of the Virgo of Prague [Post #18] started a new line of investigation.

  The hat on the Virgo of Prague is detailed and seems fairly distinctive <what do I l know about hats?>, and the VMs representation is potentially similar but ambiguous as usual. Further investigation apparently stalled out for lack of additional evidence.
  
  Imagine my surprise to find a similar hat represented twice, particularly given the source.

  In both illustrations, a lady on the right wears a decorated, blue hat much like the hat on the Virgo of Prague.
  
  The source is a 1460 French remake of Epitre d'Orthea. The dedicatory illustration shows Philip the Good and his three sons.

  The date says 1480 with no location. However, the little blurb says third quarter 15th, which is 1450-1475, in my book. And the painter was Flemish.

  That's a little bit different, but really great because of the date and the 'Berry' connection.
  
  Instead of polka dots, I'm thinking sewn-on beads or pearls.

  You're right, that would make more sense! Seems sort of like a starry background for the emblem, which does seem to have a star on it.

  And it would be just like the VMs cosmos, where the artist has used an alternate star form, not a central point with various rays, but changing to a polygonal style.
  
  The proper term for this hat seems to be "bourrelet". Some discussion previously in relation to Gemini, but not Virgo.
  
  Pizan's Book of the Queen has some early examples. They are not quite the same and they also sit up higher. Occasionally with jewels. This could be an earlier style of the hat, or the Parisian version versus the Flemish version.

  The question is: How often does Virgo even have a hat? Not to mention the same style and color.
