  In theory an exercise could be undertaken to compare other building illustrations in the manuscript with other buildings in a given region. For example, I think on the causeway between the top centre rosette and the top right rosette we see a flat-roofed bell tower or campanile. These only occur in a limited geographical area. I have not undertaken this exercise as I already have a specific opinion as to which precise building in represented in this case as I have with the swallow-tailed merlons.
  It is also worth noting that there is a building with a very steep spire on the causeway between the top left rosette and the top centre rosette(not the building in the centre). Very steep spires seem to be a feature common in southern Germany/German Switzerland, if my memory serves me well.

  There was a discussion in another tread on this subject (as well as the roof ornaments), considering all the details together. To me, a good example freely available to look at today is the castles in Bellinzona in southern Switzerland. That's not to say the castles have anything to do with the images in the manuscript, just that they are still in beautiful condition and there's thousands upon thousands of photographs available to look at and lots of obvious comparisons to consider. 
  
  Bellinzona is only a 1.5hr train from Milan, maybe it could be an idea for your trip?

  In my map interpretation I associate the long Ghibelline merlons wall with the Murata in Bellinzona, so it is certainly very relevant to me. However the only reason that I could see to visit Bellinzona would be if I anticipate there being some interesting material in the archives there. There is the Archivio di Stato del Cantone Ticino in Bellinzona, but I don't know if there is any specific reason to expect there is relevant material there. Really, the purpose of my trip is to visit archives and libraries. If I discover that Bellinzona or anywhere else has archival material that I would like to see that would be a strong reason for travelling there.
