That one was without instructions for the kind of creature it should be.. apparently "dog" is the most logical quadruped. It's the medieval illuminator's strategy really. When you don't know what an animal looks like, draw either a dog or a horse. -

Experiments at generating Voynich pages based on an example (f9v).
The results are obviously far from perfect in all respects, in particular, both the plant illustrations and text layout are too “regular” and not much Voynich-like.
I think it’s interesting what they do with the text. Gemini starts by copying the model, but diverges after a while. ChatGPT appears to be more creative: at the end of line 4, it writes kaiin, which does not occur in You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. but has several occurrences elsewhere; at line 5, it writes chkaiir, a plausible but unattested variant of chkaiin that occurs twice in f9v. daody, second line from the bottom, does not occur in the Voynich manuscript but looks like a plausible word; if one reads it as dchody, there seems to be an occurrence of f95v1. Maybe we are not far from some decent fake Voynichese (not sure if anybody needs that).

This reminds me of how they are now using AI-generated content to give LLM's more data to train on. I'm sure that at some point in the near future we could generate additional pages to increase our sample size. To generate a hundred more possible Voynich manuscripts. It would be interesting and a fun project, but my imagination is not capable of thinking of a scenario where it would actually be helpful. -

ChatGPT also draws an 'hybrid' plant, I'd say leaves and general appearance of a Viola (odorata group) but with flowers between Cyclamen and Lilium martagon. Gemini is more conservative with an easily recognizable Cyclamen purpurascens. Anyway, it's impressive. -

I can see many where it would be disastrous, though... LLMs feeding their hallucinations on their own hallucinations... scary. -

Honestly, I'm impressed. It's far off from getting the style right, but something like this would not have been possible with earlier models.
I tried the same in ChatGPT, but it said: "We’re so sorry, but the image we created may violate our content policies. If you think we got it wrong, please retry or edit your prompt."
