Still working on this as Ophiuchus is huge. Quite an intriguing chart as is seems to be a 'bad' time of the year, as draco is in the center of the sky and the serpents are amok.Booties might need to be elongated, but without any Arabic names for Hercules, still working on it.
disappointed that these were merged as they were 2 different star charts.
the second chart Ophiuchus/Asclepius were intertwined and the VM made reference to the breach of a promise, which dealt with immortality or the philosophers stone.

Here is the updated You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. star chart. I have purposely not wrote in Ophiuchus or Hercules as I am looking for the most ancient astronomy chart for the Ophiuchus constellation. The Voynich in the upper paragraph tells us that his head was cut off, and actually astronomy agrees with this, and that the serpents were cut up as well to make seperate constellation. Not a secure site You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. But the word play about the constellation, is eerily similar to the word play of the Voynich on this star chart and in the 9 rosette folio about.
If anyone is interested in the 3 charts done so far, here is the link You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. Working on the sunray one currently and one word i need to correct (type) should have read 'stare' not star on the paragraph for the fear this next chart. It speaks of Ophiuchus.

There are 24 labelled stars according to You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view.
That's about equal to the list of 1st magnitude stars visible from the Northern Hemisphere.
I guess I am saying anything not on that list would need a good reason to be there.
I mean Epsilon Cygni for instance? Why?
Your original assignment of Sirius made some sense though.

In summary there are 53 labelled stars on 68r1 and 68r2. Thats also the number of stars in an islamic astrolabe from the year 1650:

Furthermore, as far a I can say Epsilon Cygni is indeed included in the VMS as "ockhy" (transcripted by me as "an-gan", originated from Arabic word: al-ganah, which means "wing") in 68r1. This chart seems to be a star map during the summer solstice, I will explain it later, when I reconstructed all stars on the map. Until now I´ve found 13 of 29.

Register or Login to view.Monica, I haven't had time to look at your updated star charts and probably can't for a while, but I was going to mention that flipping a star chart would not be out of character for a Middle Eastern viewpoint.Chart 68r1 was "normal" while chart 68r2 had to be flipped. These were difficult to do as i had to look at Arabic, Syrian and Persian names, as there are not a lot of Hebrew names known. So I phonetically sounded out the Voynich words which is why I switched (arrowed line on workup) the two Ayin sounding words to find their proper place. One spelted "ayang" the other "ahyan". Ayang is Al-Janah the wing of Cygnus, and Ahyan is Ayn for the eye of the bull in Taurus.
It was very common for Persian books of constellations to include mirror views (one from an inside, one from outside point of view). This is less common in western manuscripts.
