  So would that mean that each Voynich word encodes one plaintext letter in binary? 
  Or are spaces only used when there could be ambiguities?

  The latter. For example, there are a lot of cases where "d" or "aiin" are separated (sometimes "d" is attached to the end of the preceding word, sometimes it stands alone), and other times they are combined. The space between them could show that they are NOT to be read as one whole group, but two separate ones. 
  
  
  I am testing out the next steps of this theory (figuring out the group patterns) and will post the results later today. I don't want to say too much in case I am on the right track, but there's also the possibility that I'm completely wrong.

  This could be completely wrong. I don't want to say I'm on the right track, but at least it's a good sign that this system can generate many common VMS tokens/vords (olk, ok, daiin, chor, chy, etc.)
  
     
  
  I broke the "tall" group (k t p f d s) into "gallows" (k t p f) and "wave" group (d s) - this still follows the principle that "similar-looking signs appear in similar places and are in the same group" because d and s are both tall and wavy. 
  
  After work, I will take a page of the VMS and see if I can analyze it according to this paradigm. I will have to do a frequency analysis and match up the most-frequent-combinations ("23" seems to appear a lot) to the most frequent letters in German and Latin. 
  
  I'm not trying to get my hopes up, because I've been wrong before and I probably still am!

  I find this quite interesting Thomas, , it's been a while since we had a proposed solution (not counting the ceaseless efforts of our resident one-way cipher generator)

  Well, the VMS won tonight. No luck trying to generate German. I'll keep trying. Maybe the groups are in the wrong order (ex: maybe the d/s group goes at the end of the paradigm).
