This could be a problem with the way data are presented. I tried to understand the process and the results at You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. and I still have no idea what exactly I'm looking at. For example, you mention angles, what are the angles measured relative to? What is used as the normal orientation? If it's the orientation of the scans, we don't know how exactly the scans were aligned, my guess is relative to the gutter fold, but this means the angles depend on the way the physical bifolios lie when the book is open, which I think in turn depends on the folds and the stitching of bifolios. So, the chains you uncovered could to some extent simply represent a progressive skewing of folios as you go from one side of a quire to the other.

This explanation does not make sense for several reasons:

The ordering is not the order they are bound in the MS.

Warping dude to binding or page gutters depends on the binding location

The angles on a single physical face, the outer face, are different due to the outer physical face being created in the opposite order (first is on the right, second is on the left).
This results in the final page, the right side on the outer face, acquiring a transverse slant. This is exactly what you would expect with singulion ordering like Latfield and Davis predict, and is consistent with a production effect.

3 pages track one angle, that consistently carries over to new pages, and 1/4 pages track a different angle that also carries over.

I have independently calculated gutter warping as we extensively discussed in the other thread. Gutter warping does not uniformly slant all text in a single consistent angle.
