Hey nablator,
This is a remarkable find. Thank you for locating the original publication!
What I find particularly interesting is that the text describes a constructive system in which the form, combination, and positioning of signs determine their function.
However, two important questions remain open. Some special characters appear as black squares in the printed transcription, and it is not yet clear whether the unusual sign table on You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login to view. represents a practical application of the preceding rules or something independent.
In particular, the rules governing the positioning of signs relative to the lines need to be understood and reconstructed more precisely.
Only then could we experimentally test whether similar construction principles might be applicable to the Voynich script, especially regarding its systematic graphical variations and apparent irregularities.
This would not establish a historical connection, but it could provide a concrete, historically documented model worth testing.
Maybe someone could help with this kind of system?
